Tell Jeff about your door.

Prepare the details for a conversation with Jeff about your door project.

A barn-style door for a new space, a different look, or hardware that needs attention. Start with what you have in mind. Jeff will have follow-up questions.

This is a preview. Jeff’s phone number, email address, and service area are still to be supplied. You can try the message builder and save a copy, but this website cannot send an inquiry. Jeff is, however, in Bentonville, and the town is not that big.

Jeff’s phone and email are not listed yet. In the meantime, the message builder will prepare a note you can keep.

Photos to have ready

Before our first conversation or when sharing your room brief, these three quick photos help Jeff check clearances right away. More photos are welcome. Jeff will look at all of them:

  1. 1. Straight-on opening Stand 8 feet back so we see the full opening from floor to ceiling, including existing trim.
  2. 2. The sliding wall run Show the wall space to the left or right where the door will park when open, noting any light switches or outlets.
  3. 3. Header & ceiling gap A photo of the wall area directly above the top casing showing available height to the ceiling.

Prepare your project details

Make a clear note of what the door needs. Copy or download it to keep for a future conversation. Jeff will be glad to have it.

Opening briefLocal draft

Your area and a short description are enough to prepare a draft. Jeff’s contact details are not listed yet, so nothing here is sent to him. He is good at waiting.

Unless you choose device saving, leaving or reloading can lose this draft. Copy or download it to keep a separate copy. Email and text open your messaging app; you finish sending there. Attach photos in that app.

Clearances & fit

What to check before choosing a door.

A sliding barn door needs space to travel and a solid surface to hang from. Here are the four checks to make on your opening.

01

Opening, trim & overlap

Record the opening and the outside of the casing separately

Measure clear opening width at the top, middle, and bottom, and height at both sides from the finished floor. Record the outside casing dimensions and projection. Choose overlap and final slab size only after checking the selected door and hardware instructions.

02

Headroom & mounting height

Keep opening, casing, slab top, and rail datum distinct

Record floor-to-ceiling or lowest obstruction height and floor-to-top-of-casing height. Hardware instructions specify their own reference point for roller clearance and rail mounting height. There is no universal six-inch requirement.

03

Travel & obstructions

Measure the full travel path on the intended side

Measure available wall run and note switches, handles, baseboard, outlets, furniture, corners, and the opposite face of the opening. Check full opening and closing travel against the chosen rail, stops, soft-close equipment, and guide geometry.

04

Floor & bottom guide

Check the highest finished-floor point along the entire travel

Record floor variation and rugs or future flooring. Required floor gap and guide engagement come from the selected system. Some guides need a routed groove; others do not. Confirm the approved guide and mounting method before altering the slab or floor.

Use the instructions for your exact model. Examples of manufacturer references: Rustica installation instructions · Johnson Hardware 2610F product specifications.

Not sure if your opening has the clearance?

Snap a photo showing the doorway and the entire wall next to it. Include it when you message Jeff and he can check the layout. He will have already looked at it twice.
