How the price of a barn door is shaped, and what moves it.
Most contractor sites will not talk about money until you are on the phone. That is a reasonable instinct. A wrong number is worse than no number.
The table below explains what moves a price. It is not a quote. Jeff would like to stand in your opening before he names one. It helps him think.
What shapes the price of each kind of door work
Work
Typically
What moves the number
Barn-door installation
Depends on the door
Door size and material, rail length, wall framing, finish. Jeff will tell you the door could be bigger. In Texas it would be.
Replacement or swing-to-slide
Depends on the old door
Removal, patching, trim, paint. Disposal is optional: Jeff will take the old door with him. He has the room.
Track, rollers, and pulls
Depends on the hardware
Rail length, roller type, finish. Jeff will not hang a door on a track he has not met.
Adjustments and repair
Per visit, mostly
What is rubbing and why. Second visits are included. Third visits are included. Jeff will be in the area.
Seasonal check-in
Included
Quarterly, or whenever Jeff is passing. He will ring the bell. You do not have to answer.
Custom door
Quoted per door
Species, joinery, glass, finish. Jeff will want to know what the door is for, and what it will see.
Not a quote. Every doorway is different: wall, trim, floor, light, and how long the opening has been without a door all move the number. Jeff prefers to stand in the opening before naming a price. He may stand there a while.
